Data Center Design Manager

What does a data centre Design Manager actually do?

A data centre Design Manager owns the design scope, budget and programme for a facility, coordinates the mechanical, electrical and structural teams working on it, and is the person who takes the design to the client and defends it. This role is that job, on data centre projects across Europe, Africa and Asia, based in southern Spain.

Who is the client?

An international engineering and design consultancy with a Mission Critical Facilities team working for data centre operators, colocation providers and telecoms companies. The Andalusian office is one of their design hubs.

What would you be responsible for?

• Owning project scope, design budget and contractual documentation
• Building and maintaining the design programme, and spreading workload across the team
• Coordinating design with multidisciplinary partners and external stakeholders
• Leading design reviews and managing design changes through to sign-off
• Taking design concepts to clients and internal teams and explaining the thinking behind them
• Feeding improvements back into how the team works and capturing what it learns

What experience do you need?

• A master's degree in mechanical or electrical engineering
• Around five years managing multidisciplinary design, engineering and construction projects, ideally on data centres
• Confident in BIM 360 and common data environments
• A working grasp of industry standards and how clients actually operate their facilities
• Fluent English

Spanish, Dutch or German are useful, as is experience with automated design processes, but none of them are essential.

What does it pay?

Up to €95,000 base salary depending on experience and level, with performance bonuses available on top. Twenty-three holiday days, a modern office in the Málaga area, laptop and phone, travel allowance, and a structured training and knowledge sharing programme.
