We are seeking a highly skilled Senior Project Mechanical Design Engineer with extensive experience to lead the mechanical building services design for large-scale, critical data centre projects across the EMEA region.
In this senior technical leadership role, you will oversee the full project lifecycle, from initial concept design through to client handover. You will be responsible for confident project delivery, effective client relationship management, and ensuring all mechanical design deliverables meet the highest quality assurance standards. A key focus will be the successful simultaneous management of multiple projects and the mentorship of engineering staff to ensure all team deliverables are met on schedule.

Candidate Profile
This senior position offers a remote work arrangement based in an EU Country , with essential travel throughout the European Union to meet project and client needs.
- Experience:
- Minimum of 10+ years of dedicated mechanical design experience, particularly in the critical systems environment.
- Proven experience in leading the design of mechanical building services (HVAC, fire suppression, plumbing, etc.) for complex facilities, ideally data centres.
- Qualifications: Hold a professional qualification in Engineering or a related discipline.
- Technical Knowledge: Extensive knowledge of core mechanical discipline areas, effective decision-making, and problem-solving skills. Good understanding of HVAC and building controls is essential. Experience in the design of plumbing and drainage systems is preferable.
- Project Leadership: Ability to lead projects autonomously, take complex briefs from the Project Lead on large developments, and effectively control the required tasks and deliverables.
- Communication: Excellent communication, presentation, and organisational skills. Must be capable of representing the design team in client meetings and explaining complex engineering issues clearly and simply.
- Management Skills: Proven ability to balance multiple tasks, strategically prioritise workloads, and delegate effectively to meet stringent project deadlines.
- Development: Commitment to the training and professional development of junior and intermediate engineers; training and mentorship will be provided to support progression into a Design Lead role.
Key Day-to-Day Activities
- Project & Quality Management: Oversee the development and manage the workload of team members to optimise productivity and meet deadlines. Implement rigorous quality control processes to ensure project deliverables meet all established standards.
- Technical Guidance: Leverage extensive technical knowledge to guide design decision-making and problem-solving across all project phases.
- Client & Stakeholder Relations: Understand and anticipate client needs, developing strong relationships to ensure the delivery of tailored solutions.
- Contractual Integrity: Comprehend and interpret contract terms and conditions to effectively control scope creep and maintain project integrity and budget.
- Resource Management: Strategically delegate tasks to achieve maximum value and enhance team engagement. Engage in resource allocation planning to optimise project execution.
- Reporting & Communication: Report project progress clearly and regularly to the Group Management Team. Promote a positive and professional message internally and externally.
