New UK government software developed to counteract online extremism New UK government software developed to counteract online extremism

The UK government has announced a new tool which claims to detect extremist content and block it from view. £600,000 of public funds was put towards the creation of this tool by a London AI company ASI Data Science and thousands of hours of extremist content has been run past the tool, in order to train it to spot extremist material automatically. Home Secretary Amber Rudd plans to meet with US tech giants to discuss the idea of making the tool compulsory for tech companies as well as other ways to tackle extremism.

Demand is off the chart for Blockchain engineers in the US

According to Tech Crunch, Blockchain related jobs are the second-fastest growing in today’s US labour market, with 14 job openings for every one blockchain developer. Requests for on-demand blockchain talent is increasingly growing, fast, and last year talent marketplace Upwork saw blockchain rise to the fastest growing skill out of more than 5,000 skills.

The no.1 video on YouTube on Monday was a clip of Boston Dynamics’ SpotMini robot dog opening a door, and holding it open for its mate too. The video did the rounds on social media and has left quite a few people delighted or terrified, prompting talk of a robot apocalypse.

React crowned the most popular front-end JavaScript framework

React remains the most popular front-end JavaScript framework, with Angular not far behind in second place according to figures from NPM. NPM is a software registry and package manager for JavaScript with the findings coming from their latest State of JavaScript Frameworks 2017 report. According to the report at the end of the last year, Facebook-curated React made up approx. 0.05% of 13 billion downloads from the registry each month.
