Breaking Barriers and Challenging Perceptions

Women in iGaming have carved out successful careers across a wide range of roles, from operations and marketing to business development and leadership. But despite the progress, challenges remain.

Lisa Wilson Chartered FCIPD, Chief People Officer at Annexio Group (LottoGo.com), acknowledges the industry's diversity struggles:

“The online gambling industry faces challenges with gender diversity and inclusion. Women often encounter underrepresentation in leadership roles, with the sector being male-dominated, which can create a culture where women struggle to gain equal respect and visibility.”

Similarly, Claire Adamou, Vice President at Saroca & Head of Operations at American iGaming Solutions, has witnessed gender biases first hand:

“I've lost count of how many times people ask my age—never heard anyone ask my male colleagues theirs. It’s frustrating, but it also highlights the biases we still need to challenge.”

Leah Neutel, Head of Studio at Relax Gaming, reflects on the progress she’s seen but also the gaps that remain:

"Women are no longer an anomaly in iGaming, and while we’ve made progress, there’s still work to do to increase representation at the top levels of leadership. This is where we have a real opportunity to drive meaningful change for DEI."

Despite these obstacles, women continue to push forward, and initiatives aimed at supporting them are making a tangible difference.

Ekaterina Mayorova, Business Development and Account Manager at PandaScore, highlights the power of networking:

“Women in iGaming groups have been a game-changer. The industry might be global, but these networks create a support system that spans different countries, ensuring women have access to mentorship, career advice, and new opportunities.”

What’s Driving Change?

The industry is evolving, and many companies are taking action to create more inclusive environments. Leaders are recognising that diversity isn’t just about fairness—it’s also a competitive advantage.

Tereza Melicharkova, Head of Marketing at Elantil, sees real momentum:

“I see progress every year, both in terms of diversity and in areas like responsible gambling. The industry acknowledges its challenges and actively works toward solutions. There’s still work to do, but we’re moving in the right direction.”

Lisa Wilson agrees, pointing out that flexible work policies, mentorship programs, and leadership initiatives are critical to retaining female talent.

Claire Adamou believes that real change will come when businesses fully embrace a cultural shift:

“Attracting and retaining female talent requires more than hiring initiatives; it demands a culture that fosters growth, values contributions, and champions success.”
