Effectiveness of CCTV in different settings

CCTV installation jobs & intrustry news: crime within retail sectorSecurity cameras are shown to reduce crime by on average 13% in the most comprehensive review of video surveillance research to date, but the latest review suggests that CCTV can be effective in more settings than previously thought. Whereas the prior review found that effects were confined to car park environments, we found varying levels of evidence for CCTV in residential areas, city/town centres, and ‘other settings’ in addition to car parks. When calculating the average of these effects, the review found that cameras reduced crime in car parks and residential areas, but no statistically significant changes in city centres or public transport settings.

Fire & Security Weekly news & jobs: UK Government is tightening the law on offensive weaponsAfter an increase in acid attacks and stabbings, the Offensive Weapons Bill is passing through Parliament; as the Government seeks to tighten the law on the sale of corrosive substances and knives. The House of Commons Public Bill Committee; which is expected to hold its oral evidence sessions on Tuesday and Thursday, July 17 and 19. At the second reading of the Bill on June 27, Home Secretary Sajid Javid, opened the debate with Shadow Policing Minister Louise Haigh responding for Labour. Shop workers will play a vital role on the frontline of policing this law, as they already do on the sale of alcohol and other age-restricted products.

Saudi biometrics market is growing

 

The future of Biometrics & IoT in Access Control marketThe latest research by 6wresearch predicts that Saudi Arabia Biometrics market revenues will cross $52.9 million by 2024. During 2014-16, the Saudi Arabian biometrics market witnessed steep drop in demand owing to declining oil prices and deteriorating economy. However, post 2017, the market witnessed robust growth attributed to substantial investment in mega infrastructure projects, Saudi Vision 2030 along with recovery from decreasing oil prices. Government initiatives along with rapid urbanisation, and rising need for advanced vigilance systems are likely to emerge as the key drivers for the growth of the Saudi Arabian biometrics market over the coming years.
