Google employee anti-diversity memo causes row

A Google employee’s opinion criticising the tech giant’s diversity initiatives has caused a row at the firm. In an internal memo, a male software engineer argued the lack of women in top tech jobs was due to biological differences between men and women. In the memo that was widely criticised the employee also wrote “We need to stop assuming that gender gaps imply sexism”. The new Head of diversity at Google, Danielle Brown responded to the memo in saying is was “not a viewpoint that I or this company encourages.”

Microsoft released .NET standard 2.0Microsoft releases .NET standard 2.0

Microsoft yesterday announced the release of .NET Standard 2.0 which includes more support for platforms and APIs, mostly surrounding the .NET framework. The APIs are designed to help ease the move of existing code to .NET Standard, including .NET Core 2.0 and the next version of UWP. Among the platforms .NET Standard 2.0 supports are .NET Framework 4.6.1, .NET Core 2.0, and Xamarin for iOS, Mac and Android.

New Talk Talk fine takes total for poor data protection to £500,000 New Talk Talk fine takes total for poor data protection to £500,000

Talk Talk has been issued with another fine for failing to look after customers’ data, 10 months after being hit with a record fine of £400,000 back in October 2016. The fine was for the cyber-attack in 2015 that exposed the personal details of more than 150,000 customers, but Talk Talk has now received an additional fine of £100,000. The latest fine is due to the breach of The Data Protection Act, where Talk Talk allowed staff to have access to large quantities of customer’s data.
