Grenfell Tower: Gate Safe calls for important changes in building access

In the immediate aftermath of the Grenfell Tower tragedy, the campaigners at Gate Safe – the organisation established to improve the understanding of existing legislation and standards affecting safe gates – were “horrified” to read in the national media that firefighters were recently hindered from attending an emergency because of a faulty automatic gate system. As an organisation, Gate Safe has always strongly advocated that a separate pedestrian gate should be provided in addition to any automated gates installed for vehicular access. This is especially important in a high occupancy dwelling (such as a tower block).

Challenges of western video cameras manufacturers

This is a success story based on organic growth that no western manufacturer in the video surveillance industry can compare with. However, no western manufacturer has had the benefit of a protected home market, the largest single market in the world and copious funds from government banks.

Defence budgets across Europe will grow in our Fire & Security Industry news 19/05/2017According to the latest report published by IHS Markit, defence budgets across Europe will grow by 1.6 percent on average annually for the next five years to reach $245 billion in total by 2021. increases in spending primarily focused on improving readiness and accelerating equipment modernization, in response to amplified threat levels in the region. “Elevated threat levels mean that there’s arguably more political support for increasing defence spending at the moment than there has been in the last ten years”

Honeywell & ADI’s separation

Fire & Security distribution sales jobsHoneywell’s comprehensive portfolio review shows that intends to separately spin off its Homes product portfolio and ADI global distribution business, as well as its Transportation Systems business, into two stand-alone, publicly-traded companies. “The spun businesses will be better positioned to maximize shareowner value through focused strategic decision making and capital allocation tailored for their end markets”. The planned separation transactions are intended to be tax-free spins to Honeywell shareowners for U.S. federal income tax purposes and are expected to be completed by the end of 2018.

More & more companies are coming together to be better and stronger.

 

 

1. HID Global, a worldwide leader in trusted identity solutions, announced that it had acquired Arjo Systems SAS, a provider of physical and digital identity solutions for secure government ID applications. Read more here(Business Wire, 04/07/2017). Additionally, in September, HID Global signed an agreement to acquire Mercury Security, an OEM supplier of controllers for physical access control. Read more here. (SDM, 19/09/2017)

2. Honeywell signed a definitive agreement to purchase Nextnine, a privately held provider of security management solutions and technologies for industrial cyber security. Read more here (Security World Market, 06/07/2017)

3.  CSL announced the acquisition of Emizon who provides the most modern, cost-effective and secure alarm signaling and monitoring service to the remote security and alarm industry and with their offices in Australia and Benelux, the acquisition underpinned CSL’s international growth ambitions. Read more here (Professional Security Magazine, 26/04/2017) End of 2017 brought us the news of CSL acquiring IQIP, a Netherlands-based provider of IP-based security and telecommunication services. IQIP will give CSL a stronger platform for providing regional support and the acquisition reflects CSL’s growth ambitions across Europe Read more here. 4. Veracity, the IP video transmission, storage and display product company acquired icomply Ltd, The UK command and control security software company. icomply maintained as a separate business and its operations was expanded including an imminent move to larger premises near Leeds. Read more here. (Professional Security Magazine, 19/01/2017)

5. Thales, a pioneer of digital technologies, has completed the acquisition of Aveillant Ltd, a Cambridge (UK) based start-up company and pioneer in holographic radar technology. This technology is ideally adapted to the growing drone market, enabling the detection, tracking and classification of very small, moving targets such as UAVs. Read more here. (Security World Market, 14/12/2017)
